Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Our Lives, Our Stories collects through this website, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. Please read it alongside your cookie choices.
Who we are
Our Lives, Our Stories is run by Moment Creative Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Our registered office is at 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal information we collect through this website, which in data protection law makes us the data controller. If you have any question about your privacy, or want to exercise your rights, email us at hello@ourlives-ourstories.com.
The information we collect
We only collect what we need:
- When you contact us through the contact form: your name, email address, and the message you send.
- When you sign up for our newsletter or the Free Family Stories Kit: your email address, and your consent to hear from us.
- When you visit the site: standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you look at. Some of this comes from cookies, which are covered below.
How we use it
We use your information to reply to your messages and send you what you have asked for, to send you our newsletter, the Free Family Stories Kit, and occasional updates where you have asked us to, and to keep the website running, safe, and improving.
Our lawful bases are your consent for marketing emails, taking steps at your request for enquiries, and our legitimate interests for running and securing the site. We will only send marketing emails where you have opted in, and you can change your mind at any time.
Cookies
This site uses cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies keep the site working. Other cookies, such as analytics, are only set if you agree. You can choose what to allow through the cookie banner when you arrive, and change your choice at any time.
Who we share it with
We never sell your personal information. We share it only with the trusted services that help us run the site and send our emails, and only so they can do that job for us. These include our website hosting provider, our email delivery provider, and our cookie-consent and analytics tools. Each one is required to protect your data and use it only on our instructions. Where a provider is based outside the UK or Europe, we take steps to make sure your data is protected to the same standard.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it. We hold enquiry messages for as long as it takes to deal with them and keep sensible records, and we keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, delete your information, stop or limit how we use it, or give you a copy in a portable format. To do any of these, email hello@ourlives-ourstories.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
If you are a guest, or we would like to invite you
Our Lives, Our Stories is a podcast about people’s life stories, so we sometimes hold information about guests and people we would like to invite.
- Your name and how to reach you, usually an email address. This comes from you, from someone who suggested you, or from where you have published it, such as your website or LinkedIn.
- Public information about you and your work, such as articles, interviews, your website and social media you have made public. We use it to get to know your story before we get in touch and to prepare for the conversation.
- If someone suggests you through our Suggest a Guest form, what they told us about you.
- If you book a recording: the date and time you choose, and anything you tell us so the day goes well, such as allergies, access needs or topics you would rather not talk about. We only use these notes with your agreement, which you give on the booking form, and only to look after you.
We use this to decide whether to invite you, to invite you, and to arrange and record your episode. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest as a podcast that shares life stories, and once you agree to take part, carrying out what we have agreed with you. Notes about allergies, access or health are used only with your consent.
Only our small team sees this information, in our private team area. It is never shown publicly. Where we use AI tools to help us summarise public information, we turn off any option for them to keep or learn from it.
If you do not become a guest, we delete our notes about you within 12 months. If you are a guest, we keep your contact and booking details for as long as your episode is published, plus a year, and your signed release form for as long as the episode is available.
You can ask to see what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or tell us you would rather not be contacted, at any time. Email hello@ourlives-ourstories.com and we will sort it out within a month.
Keeping your data safe
We take reasonable technical and practical measures to protect your information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
